23 Catalog: Zweite Enzyklopädie von Tlön EN

Catalog about the project “Zweite Enzyklopädie von Tlön”

The catalog is about a ten years bookart project by Ines von Ketelhodt and Peter Malutzki. “If our foresight is not mistaken, a hundred years from now someone will discover the hundred volumes of the Second Encyclopedia of Tlön,” Jorge Luis Borges wrote in his tale “Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius.” After fifty years his text was animation and source of inspiration for a project that we did understand as the attempt to reconstruct the Second Encyclopedia of Tlön. From 1997 to 2006 we published 50 volumes in an edition of 40 numbered and signed copies (www.tloen-enzyklopaedie.de).

The catalog contains Borges’ tale “Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius,” 300 pictures and descriptions of all 50 volumes by 23 authors, for example Virginia Bartow (NY Public Library, New York), Paul van Capelleveen (Museum Meermanno, The Hague, NL), Antoine Coron (Bibliothèque nationale Paris, FR), Eva Hanebutt-Benz (Gutenberg-Museum, Mainz, DE), Susan Milstein (Harvard University, Cambridge/MA), Jae Rossman (Yale University, New Haven/CT), Stefan Soltek (Klingspor-Museum, Offenbach, DE), James Spohrer (University of California, Berkeley/CA).

Bilingual (English/German), 256 pages, thread-stitching, 22 x 30.2 cm, printed cloth-over-board cover, edition of 1000 copies, Flörsheim 2007
