The book “Die bessere Hälfte – Eine Ahnengalerie” [The Better Half – An Ancestral Portrait Gallery] contains portraits of Ines von Ketelhodt’s maternal and paternal ancestors. They are split down the middle and combined with their spouses, merging the “better halves” in each case into a “new person.” Starting with the maternal line in the 13th century, the ancestral line continues into the present and ends in the middle of the book with Ines von Ketelhodt. Then the paternal line begins, with Ines’ father, his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, etc., and goes all the way back to the 13th century. The images were taken from paintings, drawings, copperplate engravings and epitaphs, or come from the Stosch and Ketelhodt family photo albums. The portraits are digitally printed on translucent paper; the corresponding names, with birth and death dates for each person, are letterpress printed on the reverse. For early ancestors, there are often no portraits available, only some fragmentary personal details. At another level, general historical data is provided in relation to this family data.
